Noreen McGowan Obituary, Death; Remembered as Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother in Sligo

The community of Sligo and those with connections to Killybegs, Co. Donegal, are mourning the sudden death of Noreen McGowan (née O’Rourke), who passed away unexpectedly at her home on August 13, 2026.

Noreen, of Mountain Close, Cartron Point, Sligo, was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, relative and friend. Her sudden passing has left her family and wider circle facing a profound sense of loss.

She was the beloved wife of Ted McGowan and a devoted mother to Stephen, alongside Aoife Walsh, and Nicole Carr, alongside Gary. Her family was at the centre of her life, and her memory will continue through the children and grandchildren she loved dearly.

Noreen was also a cherished grandmother to Theo, Myles and Darcie Carr, who will grow up carrying memories of a grandmother whose presence was deeply valued by the family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Florence, as well as her brothers Eugene and Francis, her sister Joan, and David, whom the family remembered with particular love.

Noreen is sadly missed by her husband Ted, children Nicole and Stephen, brothers Joe, David, Con, Timmy, Jimmy and Kevin, sister Caroline, grandchildren, in-laws, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Her death has brought sadness to both the Sligo community and those who knew her through her connections to Killybegs and Co. Donegal. For her family, the suddenness of her passing makes the loss especially difficult as they come to terms with her absence.

In the days ahead, loved ones will draw comfort from the memories they shared with Noreen and from the relationships that remained an important part of her life.

She will be remembered with affection by all who knew and loved her.
