John Mann Obituary: Salt Lake City Attorney Dies Unexpectedly at 48 While Training for Next Race

John William Mann, a beloved husband, father, attorney, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a medical event while training for his next race. He was 48.

His unexpected death has left his family, friends, colleagues, and extended community grieving a profound loss. John was deeply loved by those around him, and his passing has been felt far beyond words.

Born on March 13, 1978, in Salt Lake City to Shauna Sybrowsky Mann and William Jay Mann, John grew up alongside his older sister, Kristin, and younger brother, Jared. From the age of five, he was raised by his mother and his beloved grandfather, John Sybrowsky, who played an important and lasting role in his life.

As a young man, John served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Austria Vienna Mission. The experience strengthened a deep and unwavering faith that remained an important part of his life.

John met the love of his life, Liz, while working at the University of Utah. The couple married on May 22, 2003, in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a marriage and family life that would become one of the most meaningful parts of John’s life.

He graduated from the University of Utah in 2002 before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2007. John went on to establish a distinguished legal career, most recently serving as a partner at Kirton McConkie.

While his professional accomplishments were significant, those who knew John remembered that he valued people just as much as his work. The friendships he developed throughout his legal career were deeply meaningful to him, and he treasured the close relationships he shared with colleagues and associates.

Away from his professional life, John was devoted to his family and embraced the role of husband and father. His love for his wife and children was central to the life he built, and his family will now face the difficult days ahead while holding onto the memories they created together.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Mann; his children, Elder John Benjamin Mann, Jacob Zachary Mann, and Clare Elizabeth Mann; his mother, Shauna Sybrowsky Mann; his father, William “Bill” Mann; his sister, Kristin Acree; his brother, Jared (Amber) Mann; as well as cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.

His death marks the loss of a man remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his faith, devotion to family, friendships, and the relationships he built throughout his life.
